The golden rule: where to draw the age line
Children from 0 to 3 depend entirely on their parents to eat and settle, so putting them at a separate table just means the parents spend the meal getting up.
From 4 or 5 onwards, sitting with cousins and other children turns the banquet into a game and lets the adults enjoy the meal in peace.
Where the children's table goes on the plan
Put the children's table to one side of the room, ideally with a direct, visible way out to the garden or play area, and as far as possible from the band's or DJ's speakers.
Leave at least 1.2 m clear around it so the entertainers can move and children do not run into waiters carrying hot plates.
Making room for high chairs and pushchairs at adult tables
A high chair or pushchair takes up around 30% more room than an ordinary chair. At a 180 cm round table with a pushchair, drop the adults from 10 to 8 so the passage does not get choked.
